Creative Art Classes offer a pathway to translate into art the unique ways that you see and appreciate the world around and within you. You are encouraged to release the inner messages that demand that you ‘get it right’ or only produce something ‘perfect’. Rather than developing proficiency—even expertise—in copying the work or techniques of others, you will focus on developing your artist’s voice that will help you discover your unique, highly personal style. And you will find it remarkable how quickly this personal style emerges.

Working in a group setting assists you to learn and gather a multitude of new ideas from others. In addition, you see how your own creations fit so beautifully into the bigger picture.

SERIES 1  - includes working with charcoal, pastels and water-based tempera paint. Through a series of lively non- threatening exercises, you will play with color, texture and composition.

SERIES 2 - builds upon and extends what has been introduced in Series 1.

SERIES 3 - teaches you how versatile and easy it is to use Acrylic paint. With the light-hearted approach of the previous Series, you will work with different mediums and techniques on a variety of surfaces.

SERIES 4 - working in either Acrylic or Watercolor, you will plan, draw and complete works of art.

Duration: each Series can be taken once a week for 5 consecutive weeks from 7-9:15 or as a Weekend Intensive Saturday 10-5/ Sunday 11-3 (see the schedule below for dates)

Costs: $195.00 per series. All materials provided.

Booking/Payment options:

  • Call 403-240-2547 to book a space in the class of your choice.
  • Please prepay with cash or cheque as I do not accept credit cards.

Tips that will maximize and enrich your Creative Art Class experience:

  • Bring a painting shirt so you can be messy.
  • Do your best to say ‘yes’, even if what is asked seems odd or scary. When we relax, laugh a little, and don’t take things too seriously, amazing things happen.
  • Understand that I don’t see anything as a mistake, but as a glorious opportunity to learn and play.

Frequently Asked Questions

I have never tried to draw or paint and doubt that I have any talent. Will I be able to succeed in your classes?

Yes, yes, and yes. The classes are developed so that it is impossible to get anything wrong. Step by step, you learn that making art is fun and easy, once your judgments and fears are laid to rest. One of my great joys is seeing students who initially trembled with fear and insecurity leave the class with their first pieces of art…and huge smiles.

Can I take the same level more than once?

Yes, many people have done this.

Can I bring my teenage son/daughter?

These are adult classes, however some teens have joined us with great success. I am open to discuss their participation so give me a call.

What will I gain from your classes?

You will certainly take away many original creations. Most important, I show you how to see with ‘the artist’s eye’. Whether or not you continue to make art, my hope is that you will forever regard the world in a richer and deeper way. Rather than simply stopping to smell the flowers, tree bark, or pebble, you will, for example, examine the way the leaf attaches to the stem. If you spill your coffee, you will watch in wonder as it flows around your chair leg. You will pay attention to your dog’s world as he ambles through the garden; you will marvel at all the colours in a shadow.

I have been painting for a long time; how would your classes benefit me?

As a working artist, I occasionally experience periods akin to writer’s block where I lack ideas and inspiration and feel I cannot face an empty canvas. At these times, I am my own worst critic, pressured by the nagging inner voice telling me that as a professional, I should come up with something fresh, new, and exciting. If you have experienced anything similar, coming to a series of classes with me will immerse you in the delight of artistic creation. You may find that when you re-connect with your own unique voice and particular style, once again you paint for the sheer joy of doing so. Engaged and refreshed, you are ready for new directions and destinations.

Do you offer any other workshops?
